Bureaucracy
Right now i am in the state of comparing life in the US with that in India. These are mainly contrasts that i noticed here, than how it works back in India.
Recently i had been to a DMV (license granting authority in the US) to get a state identification card. It is a very important document, an equivalent of the driver's license for the people who dont know how to drive. So, i had gone to the office expecting atleast a wait of 2 hours to get the form, and then a wait of 15 days or more to get the ID. I was out of there in 15 mins flat with the ID!!!! I had taken all the documents, they verified them, entered all data they wanted, took a picture, printed the card and wala - its done!
The office was not a dungeon, as it usually is if its a government building in India. People want to finish the work early. No delays tolerated. If you dont have the right documents, leave. No excuses entertained. Everything, and i mean everything, is available on the internet. Get the info, use it to get the work done quicker. And most importantly of all, the customer is the Boss here. If he says he doesnt like it, thats it. No arguments. This is one thing i really miss back in India. Every place we go, the service provider acts the master. Thats not the way it should be. Isnt it?
